NIUK: Team Test
Team Test is made up of four Applications Engineers (AEs) from the National Instruments UK (NIUK) branch in
Newbury, Berkshire: Rob Warham, Imtiaz Chowdhury, Philip Krejov and Mark Barnes. The team is
led by Rob Warham. The four AEs usually work together as Rich Roberts' team to provide
after-sales technical support to NIUK customers. In Q1 2010, Team Test made up 1 of 3 teams
that collectively make the AE department of NIUK.
In November 2009, Team Test were asked to create an automated test system that would be capable of testing a well-known device under test: Nintendo® Wii® remote controllers – much like a post-production test to verify functionality. They worked on this project for a few solid months, making sure they followed good Software Engineering principles. They paid close attention to detail in all aspects of the project; proposal, planning, design, architecture (both hardware and software) & implementation and testing.
Following all the key aspects of product development, the team were able to learn a lot along the way, and ended up winning the internal AE Project Competition of 2010. The Wiimote Automated Test System they developed is summarised with some technical depth in Imtiaz Chowdhury's blog post. The demo is expected to tour around the UK and all over Europe for customers to see, starting in July 2010.
